⌠Implementation of Gender Mainstreaming in Europe -
a Challenge for Political Education■

Gender mainstreaming is a strategy for the effective promotion of equal chances for women and men - concerning all levels of political processes and measures. The realisation of this approach for a sustainable development requires the knowledge of the genesis of the current gender relations in society as well as the awareness for the necessity of its changing through individual and organisational learning. On these grounds only all political processes and measures can be formed from the point of a gender sensitive perspective in the future. Because of that the process of gender mainstreaming implementation, which up to now was initiated and organized top down, needs an overall concept of political education, which is orientated towards sustainability.
The European Congress offers a platform for a discussion on a national as well as on an European level about the scientific implications and the implications for political education and its practice to bring forward gender mainstreaming. The congress wants to promote the implementation through political education.
