E-CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT

You are invited to participate in the second e-conference on:
Successes and Failures in Gender Mainstreaming in Integrated Water Resource Management :
The second in a series of three e-conferences on Successes and Failures
in Gender Mainstreaming in Integrated Water Resource Management will
begin on 8 April 2002 and continue until May 21. This e-conference will
concentrate on case studies of experiences, and participants will share
their successes and failures. The goal is to use this experience to
create policies and practices that work
Summaries of the first e-conference - the State of the Art - are available on the Gender and Water Alliance web site - www.genderandwateralliance.org.
The three e-conferences are held in four languages. Each language uses the same agenda and the summaries of each language e-conference are published for all participants to read. There are approximately 770 people participating in the e-conference series: 260 in Spanish, 143 in French, 117 in Portuguese and 250 in English.
Your participation and contribution is vital to the process of knowledge sharing and knowledge development in this area!
The e-conferences are run by the Gender and Water Alliance, an alliance of 120 organizations working in the area of water, information and gender. Its aim is to promote effective policy and practice on mainstreaming gender issues in water management.

Stage 2: April 8 - May 21
Conference 2
Successes and Failures in Gender Mainstreaming in IWRM - case studies
1. Define the concepts (clarify issues)
2. Look at good practices and failed practices (document)
3. Analyze
The case studies will be examples of one or more of the 5 benefits of gender mainstreaming in IWRM:

╥ equity
╥ sustainable use of eco-systems
Stage 3: September 2 - September 27
Conference 3
Synthesis: Analysis and Recommendations in Gender Mainstreaming in IWRM
1. Define the concepts (clarify issues)
2. Discuss all summaries of the previous e-conferences in the
various languages
3. Analyze
Finally, the results of the e-conference will feed into the Virtual
Water Forum that is being run by the secretariat of the 3rd World Water

If you participate in a water development project in which gender is part of the project If you know of people working in such a project, or If you have tried to mainstream gender in your water management work, then this is an E-conference to participate in!
If you have no experience in gender mainstreaming in integrated water management, you too are welcome to join the discussion!
